Not just another 'bulk standard' first day cover!  This one comes with a full provenance!

Back in the day, long before Royal Mail consolidated it's mail sorting and embraced automation, they operated many more 'local' sorting and delivery offices. This enabled the local franking of First Day Covers.

My parent's family home was on the Isle of Wight, and my father was able to indulge his stamp collecting hobby by ordering First Day Covers to be locally franked. So this local destination FDC would have been franked at Ryde or possibly Newport, and delivered next day - never having crossed the Solent to England!  These Carbon-conscious days, it would take a sea voyage to the UK mainland to be sorted at Southampton, and then return to the Island. Progress!

So this one's UNIQUE.  It's been in my family collection ever since - never before out of our hands!
