Original 1878 10 1/2 inch x 6 3/8 inch engraving titled THE RESCUE - LION HUNTING IN ARABIA

Depicting a group of men hunting a lion with guns. The lion has one petrified man, clutching a bloody dagger, pinned to the floor underneath it, whilst the others approach the lion in a semi-circle from the left, armed with a variety of rifles.

Engraved by John Carr Armytage (1802 - 1897). Engraver who worked much for Virtue & Co, the publishers of 'The Art Journal' in which many of his plates appeared .

After Charles Alexandre Coessin de la Fosse (1829-1910). A French neoclassisist painter and engraver.

Published in the Art Journal by J.S. Virtue & Co. Ltd., London.

Page size 12 3/8 inch x 9 1/4 inch

The engraving is in very good condition. Reverse side blank.
