Official Map Of The Moon (1958)

Description:  This is an original map, not a recent reprint.  Open, it measures 71 x 62cm (28 x 24 inches).  Rand McNally's Official Map of the Moon, published in 1958, is a vintage astronomy map that showcases the lunar surface with detailed cartographic features.  The map includes the far side of the Moon and is based on a mosaic photo compiled by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Service, U.S. Air Force, using photographs taken at various observatories.  It features relief shown by shading and spot heights, with an orthographic projection.  The map also includes an inset of major physiographic divisions and covers both the near and far sides of the Moon.  The map's historical significance is highlighted by its role in showcasing early American achievements in the Space-Race, with panels of information about craters and early satellites.  The map is part of a collection that includes other historical maps and celestial charts, such as the 1958 Rand McNally Pictorial Map of the Solar System and Outer Space.  The map's detailed representation of the Moon's surface and its historical context make it a valuable piece for collectors and enthusiasts of astronomy and cartography.

Condition:  Acceptable.  It has some discolouration and defects such as little rips and some splitting on some fold creases.  I have a video clip highlighting them however I do not have a Youtube account and therefore would need to find an alternative way of showing anyone interested (for now it can be viewed on another selling platform where I have an account).  As can be seen from the photos, historically it has been folded incorrectly and over the years it has adopted that position where its edges aren’t properly aligned.
