Original British 30 inch x 40 inch Quad Poster for the 1991 Martha Coolidge Drama RAMBLING ROSE, based on the book by Calder Willingham and starring Laura Dern, Robert Duvall, Diane Ladd, Lukas Haas and John Heard.
One of those intelligent, bitter-sweet, sentimental, On Golden Pond films the Americans do so well, and actors in the US live for because they provide the Oscar-winning parts that other films can’t reach. Dern plays Rose, a girl of easy virtue, taken on by Ladd (Dern’s real-life mom) and Duvall to look after their house and 3 kids. Rose falls for everyone, confusing sex and love, propositions the honourable Duvall, goes to bed with Hassa, and sleeps with all the boys of the town. Dern’s charisma easily overcomes the awkwardness of her role and the weirdness of her character and the other carefully etched, intricate performances and great 30’s period sense make this a fine film. Dern was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award and Ladd Best Supporting Actress Academy Award.
