Seller's Description

Original British 17 inch x 11 inch Trade Advertisement for the 1945 Sidney Gilliat Drama THE RAKE'S PROGRESS starring Rex Harrison, Lilli Palmer, Margaret Johnston, Godfrey Tearle, Guy Middleton, Jean Kent and Garry Marsh.

The film’s plot follows the career of upper-class cad Vivian Kenway (Rex Harrison). He is sent down from Oxford University for placing a chamber pot on the Martyrs' Memorial. Sent to South America, he rebels against plantation life, eventually becoming a car racing driver. He descends to a life of woman-chasing and drunkenness, which causes the death of his father, Colonel Kenway (Godfrey Tearle).

Advert artwork by Reginald Perrott (1914 - 1947). Reginald Perrott was born in Charlton, Woolwich, South-East London. He was a comic strip artist producing strips for the Illustrated Sunday News and the London Evening Star in the 1930s. In 1936 he was recruited by Odhams Press and his first strip was "The Road to Rome" (1936), inspired by the film Ben-Hur and influenced by the work of illustrator Fortunino Matania. After the war he became studio manager of Mickey Mouse Weekly. He died of cancer in 1947.
