- 18000 Arrives at Tinsley:  The Gas Turbine locomotive No.18000 arrived at Tinsley TMD on January 12, after making the final leg of its journey from Austria on a low loader via Immingham Docks. Tinsley will undertake external renovation to as-near original condition as possible, after which it is intended by RfD to display the locomotive at various promotional events connected with the opening of the channel Tunnel to freight. No.18000 is pictured being lowered onto its bogies.

- News:  Kent Rail study published; Cornwall's 'bubble' cars are withdrawn; Arley tunnel re-opens after refurbishment; Bournemouth, Hellifield and Nottingham stations to get facelift; Red Star withdrawn from sale; Dover Western Docks closure agreed and Pete Waterman gets another Class 47.

- The Human revolution:  Dick Hardy continues his account of the introduction of diesel traction on the Eastern Region of British Railways. Diesel railcars had arrived at Stratford, along with a new set of maintenance problems.
