Seller's Description
This is a postcard with a view of Lincoln Cathedral.
It was posted in February 1919 from Beirut, Syria (now Lebanon), using the British Army Field Post Office mark FPO DC4, then allocated to the 4th Cavalry Division of the British Indian Army. This unit remained in the Middle East on occupation duties until 1921.
The card was sent by “George” to Miss W. Argent at an address in Forest Gate, Essex. The sender discusses the possibilities of demobilisation. He says, “keep up word for the ”originals" - now that [19]14-15 men are to go I stand a chance of getting back later on. My group is 42 - you'll see by [news]papers when it is called - I think it will be in the next lot". I believe "group 42" were men called up around June 1916. I have not been able to find any family history about George or the recipient - I am not sure if they related.
The postcard is in fair condition with minor wear to the corners and edges, and some marks on the back.
