Seller's Description

Original 1950s re-release Belgian 13 7/8 inch x 20 1/4 inch Poster for the 1941 Leslie Howard World War II Propaganda Adventure PIMPERNEL SMITH, loosely based on the novel “The Scarlet Pimpernel” by Baroness Emmuska Orczy and starring Leslie Howard, Mary Morris, Francis Sullivan, Hugh McDermott, Allan Jeayes, Peter Gawthorne, Raymond Huntley, Philip Friend, Manning Whiley, David Tomlinson, Aubrey Mallalieu and A.E. Matthews.

Eccentric Cambridge archaeologist Horatio Smith (Howard) takes a group of British and American archaeology students to pre-war Nazi Germany to help in his excavations. His research is supported by the Nazis, since he professes to be looking for evidence of the Aryan origins of German civilisation. However, he has a secret agenda: to free inmates of the concentration camps.

The poster is in very good folded condition with the top panel partly trimmed and a censor stamp lower right.
