DescriptionThis listing is for Phantom, Rocker & Slick - What You Want Single PROMO Vinyl Record SPRO-9564. Label: EMI America – SPRO 9564 Condition: Jacket: None - Single Jacket Vinyl: Very Good Tracklist: A What You Want 4:28 Plays the same both sides. The left side of both the A-Side and B-Side label reads "PROMOTIONAL COPY ONLY....NOT FOR SALE". Phantom, Rocker & Slick was an American rock band active in the mid-1980s. The bandmembers were drummer Slim Jim Phantom, bassist Lee Rocker, and guitarist Earl Slick. Phantom and Rocker had previously played together as members of the Stray Cats. They released two albums, Phantom, Rocker & Slick and Cover Girl, on EMI Records before disbanding. Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker grew up together in New York City. They began writing songs when they were 12 years old. Along with Brian Setzer they formed the Stray Cats. When the Stray Cats broke up they began looking for a new guitarist and met sessionman Earl Slick at a music trade show leading to the formation of the band. Years earlier Rocker had been a fan of Slick's guitar work on David Bowie's David Live. Slick also played on Bowie's Station to Station and John Lennon's Double Fantasy. Their first release, 1985's self-titled Phantom, Rocker & Slick was produced by Michael Barbiero and Steve Thompson and was a moderate success peaking at 62 on the Billboard 200. Its first single was "Men Without Shame" and was written in ten minutes. It did well on the Top Rock Tracks chart peaking at number 7 and was played in the active rotation on MTV. The single "My Mistake" also appeared on the Top Rock Tracks chart, peaking at 33, and featured Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones on guitar. Nicky Hopkins also made a guest appearance on the album, playing piano on the track "No Regrets". The release of their second album, Cover Girl, in 1986 was the beginning of the end for the band. It did poorly reaching only 181 on the Billboard 200 and they soon broke up with Phantom and Rocker rejoining the Stray Cats and Slick returning to session work.
I base the condition of each of my Records off of 's Grading System.
• NEAR MINT (NM) Looks almost new, but has some minor flaws such as a drill hole; unobtrusive writing on label (e.g., an X on a promo copy); minor scuffing on vinyl; minor color flaking on label, or other insignificant flaws that only slightly detract from visual appeal. May have some minor surface noise, but nothing distracting. • VERY GOOD (VG) There may be light scuffing and some of the original vinyl luster may be lost. The vinyl and label may appear used, but well cared for. Records may have some more obvious flaws that are not visually degrading such as a sticker on the label; more noticeable writing on the label; scuffing and minor scratches on the vinyl; or minor discoloration of the label. There may be very minor warping of the vinyl. There may be a slight scratch not affecting play. • GOOD (G) Record has visible signs of handling and playing, such as loss of vinyl luster, minor surface scratches, groove wear, and audible surface noise. Appears well used but not abused. May have a few major flaws, such as scratches, label tears, or stickers, and/or writing. • FAIR (F) Appears well used and somewhat abused. Audio is not great due to surface noise and scratches. The record may have a stick or a skip. Records in this condition are those you might purchase to fill a hole in your collection until a better copy comes along. • POOR (P) Well played with little luster and significant surface noise, but still not cracked or broken. Record likely skips and/or sticks. Typically so bad looking that a true “collector” would just toss it out. More useful as a Frisbee. I try not to sell records in this condition.
