Text from the free encyclopedia WIKIPEDIA may appear below to give a little background information:
*************
Pertisau is a small village on the Achensee in the Tyrol region of Austria.
Pertisau is in the Schwaz (district). It is located in the Karwendel Alpine Park, one of the oldest, cross-border, protected areas of the Eastern Alps. There are many beautiful valleys in this area.
Pertisau is also the center for the Achensee shipping business. Every morning the ships start their journey along the lake from Pertisau and connect the villages around the lake with the Achenseebahn rack and pinion railway at Seespitz Station.
In the village at the Vitalberg museum you can learn about the origins and the production of Tirolean mineral oil. A glass mountain in the center of Pertisau introduces visitors to the 100-year old tradition of Tirolean rock oil. Since 1902 the Albrecht family has been extracting the oil from oil slate. Tirolean rock oil is claimed to be a natural remedy for joint problems, blood flow irregularities and problems of the musculo-skeletal system as well as reviving and easing tension before and after sports.
The parish church is the work of the Austrian architect Clemens Holzmeister.
In Pertisau you will also find the Fürstenhaus a country residence of Emperor Maximilian I. of Austria.
Above the town are two main winter ski areas, the Planberg Wiesenlifte, which has one easy trail, and the Karwendel Bergbahn, which has eight easy and eight intermediate trails. These are also ideal areas for walking during the summer months.
You can also enjoy (tandem)paragliding, kitesurfing, mountain biking, rafting and diving in the area and hiking, sailing, or cycling around the Achensee lake.
