Seller's Description
Original aerial propaganda leaflet, illustrated. [9th US Army 1944]. 2 pages. 112 x 155 mm. Text in German.
Code CPH-25. - Kirchner 18, 199.
“The [CPH] series (numbered 1-40 and ‘BO’) was printed by a mobile psychological warfare team out of the U.S. 9th Army consisting of personnel from the 2nd and 5th Companies of PWD/SHAEF, and thereafter known as 5 Company, the printing section made up of one officer and five technical sergeants. As nearly all the leaflets produced were [of] a tactical and strategical nature they were disseminated by artillery shells, but a small percentage was dropped by the 29th Tactical Air Force. The printing squad first set up at Bemeln in Holland in October 1944 where the composing was done in a Dutch printing shop in Maastricht, about five kilometres away. Printing on mobile trucks was carried on through the Ardennes break-through and up to the Roer offensive in February 1945.” (A Psychological Warefare Casebook by Daugherty and Janowitz, cited in: The Falling Leaf, No. 150, Autumn 1995, p. 98).
Crinkling and scorch marks (typical for shelled leaflets), small paper loss to left margin.
