Old Cupboard Cabinet Lock Has 1 Key 1 lever Plus Secure Warding LEFT HAND LOCK

Here I have for sale a very nice, rare and hard to find vintage early Victorian period antique brass and steel LEFT HANDED  "cut" cabinet lock (or cupboard lock) complete with 1 working extra long NON ORIGINAL SKELETON key which works the lock perfectly with a very nice firm snap action.

This lock is an early brass and steel cut cabinet lock (or cupboard lock) and has 1 secure lever plus the secure warding inside this lock where the bottom and top part of the key must have corresponding slots cut out in order to for it to get past the warding and to be able to turn inside this lock to lift the 1 lever (to the correct level) and move the lock bolt back and fourth, if the key does not have the corresponding slots cut out it will not even fit all the way into the lock or turn. full stop  so this is a very secure lock for it's time.  

The warding means that this lock has an internal "obstruction" (pieces of metal inside of the keyhole called warding) which the key MUST have the same corresponding profile cut out so that the key is able to turn and get past this "obstruction" (the warding that is inside this lock), if the key does not have the same sort of cutout which matches the internal warding then the key will simply NOT TURN in this lock.

Again this is a left handed cut cabinet lock (or half mortice lock as some people call it), Please see photo number 15 on this listing as this shows both left and right handed doors to give you a rough idea of what to look for when buying the correct lock for your cabinet or cupboard. 

THIS LOCK IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR A LEFT HANDED CABINET / CUPBOARD DOOR WHERE THE HINGES ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND THE LOCK (THE KEYHOLE) IS ON THE LEFT AND THE DOOR OPENS OUTWARDS AND TOWARDS YOU.

This lock is from my own personal collection of vintage locks. It has no makers name and dates from the 1840's era. It is in very good used condition and it looks absolutely fantastic !

This great lock is a collector's item due to its vintage age and is a good quality early brass and steel LEFT HAND cut cabinet lock. It is perfect for that antique cabinet or cupboard where a similar lock may be not working or missing !

Please see all 15 pictures and study them carefully as they show the actual lock you are buying and the over all condition that it is in including any marks and imperfections it has being a vintage item that is now many years old.

The measurements of this lock are below:-

Height of lock back plate is 74 mm.

Width of lock back plate is 37.1 mm. 

Height of lock left side face plate (where lock bolt come out) is 73/74 mm (1 side is not 100% straight).

Width of lock left side face plate (where lock bolt come out) is 13.5 mm.

The distance between the left edge of this lock to the center of where the key hole pin is, is 20 mm.

The measurements of the lock case part that gets recessed in to the wood and hidden is 51 mm high by 36.5 mm wide by approx 10 mm in depth.  

The total length of the key is 78 mm. 

This is a LEFT HANDED lock and only suitable for cabinet doors that have the keyhole on the LEFT HAND side when looking at the cabinet door from the OUTSIDE with the door fully CLOSED.
