Seller's Description
Original French 22 inch x 15 1/4 inch 6 pages with printed paintings titled A L’ABORDAGE: UN EXPLOIT, QUI NE PARAISSAIT PLUS POSSIBLE, ACCOMPLI PAR DES MARINS FRANCAIS (ON BOARDING: AN EXPLOIT, WHICH NO LONGER SEEMED POSSIBLE, ACCOMPLISHED BY FRENCH SAILORS)
The auxiliary sloop Nord-Caper for the brilliant way in which this vessel which had only 10 armed men kidnapped a Turkish schooner manned by 43 armed men including 11 officers.
Painted by Charles Fouqueray (1869 - 1956). A major French marine painter who had a close professional relationship with the French Navy. While the rest of the French artists fully dived into innovation and the birth of the impressionism, he dedicated himself into the tight realism of his romantic portrayals of the French maritime history.
On the reverse is a 22 inch x 15 1/4 inch printed painting titled LA CONFERENCE FRANCO-ANGLAISE DE PARIS: CONVERSATION APRES LE DEJEUNER, AU QUAI D’ORSAY (THE FRANCO-ENGLISH CONFERENCE IN PARIS: CONVERSATION AFTER LUNCH, AT THE QUAI D’ORSAY)
Painted by José Simont (1875 - 1968). Barcelona-born José Simont Guillén was an internationally admired magazine illustrator during the first half of the 20th century. He moved to Paris in 1898 where, during the First World War he produced several drawings of French soldiers, almost always highly sympathetic and sometimes quite sentimental.
The pages come from the French magazine L’ILLUSTRATION, November 1915
The pages are in fine condition with a vertical centre fold with 2 staple holes along it. Printed photographs on the reverse.
