ALGINATE & PLASTER MATERIALS: 

This fabulous value baby casting kit contains plenty of high grade colour change (chromatic) alginate impression powder - which is totally safe for use on your baby's skin as the alginate's main ingredient is seaweed!  (Dentists use this exact same alginate in their patient's mouths, it conforms to British safety standards BS 4269 Pt.2:1991 & ISO 1563:1990). 

There's 500g pack of BabyRice Alginate per kit, which is nearly double than some other kits - this 500g amount will create approx. up to 6 moulds of a tiny newborn baby, or 3-4 casting moulds of a 3-6 month old, or 2-3 moulds of a 1-2 year old.  Plus there's 800g of strong, stone Herculite II casting plaster - again, double than what some other baby casting kits are offering.  Herculite II plaster is a much better plaster to use than Plaster of Paris.  Herculite II plaster is stronger and more durable compared to Plaster of Paris - you can be rest assured that we only use the very best materials in all of our casting kit ranges.

All casting materials and paints can be bought separately in our shop should you wish to purchase more for additional casts.

THE PROCESS: 

3D hand and foot casting will produce amazing results and the effort is more than worth it, we promise! 

You will need a helper to assist you (some people find that having a 2nd helper makes the process even easier, but this is up to you) and with the help of our easy to follow instructions that come with the kit you will be able to produce some great casts.  We also have some Youtube videos on our BabyRice Youtube Channel which you may also find helpful.

The process simply involves:

a) mix the alginate you need with 30 degree centigrade water

b) place your baby's hand or foot into the mixture and leave your baby's hand or foot for anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute before the alginate sets (timing depends at what stage you put your baby's hand or foot into the mixture)

c) remove baby's hand or foot - now you have your alginate mould

d) mix the plaster with water

e) pour plaster into the alginate mould

f) after an hour or so the plaster sets, gently break away the alginate mould from the plaster cast to reveal a work of art!

And that's it, really simple!

Your baby does not need to be sleeping to get the alginate impression moulds of their hands and feet, but we do suggest that if your baby is too wriggly during the first attempt of making the alginate mould, then to wait until they're fast asleep before trying again (this suggestion is also in our instructions).  By doing this, you will avoid wasting too much of the BabyRice Alginate and get some perfect moulds to pour the plaster into.
