Big Baggitt

Baggitt is a cute shoulder bag which comes in two sizes, l2 by 14” or 8” by 10” (Little Baggitt). It has outside and inside pockets. The directions are easy to follow. Basically you will cut rectangles and assemble them into a bag. Fabric Requirements

Fabric Selection

Cotton or any fabric of similar weight is appropriate for Baggitt. A heavier fabric such as denim could be used if you didn’t use batting with it. The main part of the bag could be from one fabric, or could be one fabnc with a second fabric accent as a strip along the top, or could be a created fabric such as a strips of several fabrics or a fabric made from patchwork If you like to work with decorative threads, the bag could be embellished with thread just before you make the strap (page 2), or it could be quilted just before you sew the strap to the bag.

Getting Started

Baggitt is made with four elements — the bag, the strap, one or two inside pockets, and one or two outside pockets. All the elements except the inside pockets use a lightweight batting; Thermore by Hobbs or Soft Touch by Fairfield is recommended. Baggitt is 12” wide by 14” deep with a 3” shoulder strap. Little Baggitt is 8” wide by 10” deep with a 2” shoulder strap. The top of Baggitt hangs about 14” from the shoulder (17” for Little Baggitt). If you are tall, you might want to lengthen the strap. Add 2” to the strap length for every inch you want to lengthen the bag.

All seams are 1/2”. The measurements in the directions will make Baggitt (the larger bag). The measurements that follow in parenthesis and that are italicized are for Little Baggitt.

Ziplock bag: 9¾” x 6” (24.8 x 15.2cm)

The package measures approximately 9¾” x 6” (24.8 x 15.2cm) and weighs approximately 0.7 ounces (20 grams). Shipping weight will be 50 grams.
