Text from the free encyclopedia WIKIPEDIA may appear below to give a little background information:

*************

Marigot Bay is a bay in the Caribbean, located on the western coast of Saint Lucia, situated 3.75 miles south west from Castries. It is surrounded on three sides by steep, emerald-colored hills.

James A. Michener the US Novelist is famously quoted as describing it as 'The Most Beautiful Bay in the Caribbean', it is also a historic landmark having played a roll in a number of battles between the French and Royal Navy.

It is famed as the setting for the 1967 film version of Hugh Lofting's classic Doctor Dolittle books, which starred Rex Harrison and Anthony Newley. The bay is used for the scenes involving the shipwreck, the fictional Great Pink Sea Snail and the construction of the harness for the Giant Lunar Moth.

It is also home to the Marigot Bay Hotel (formerly the Discovery Marigot Bay) a 5 Star Luxury Boutique Hotel, Marina and Spa, the property consists of a circa 50 suite boutique hotel property, Spa, a marina with Superyacht dock and a retail village. Recently voted 'Best Hotel in the Caribbean in the CNBC Awards , it is a discreet luxury retreat for the rich and famous.

The Moorings Yacht Charter company also has a base on the South side of the bay, yachts from 40' to 50' can be chartered with or without a captain for sailing holidays to the Grenadines South or Martinique North of Saint Lucia.

The entrance to the bay is only a short distance from the Saint Lucian National Marine Reserve, escorted tours of the reserve are now a legal requirement and are organised by the Marigot Bay Dive Centre.
