Original British 9 3/4 inch x 7 3/4 inch Portrait of Cinematographer WILKIE COOPER for the 1951 Maclean Rogers Comedy MADAME LOUISE starring Richard Hearne, Petula Clark and Garry Marsh.

Wilkie Cooper BSC (1911 – 2001) was a British cinematographer, born in London, the son of the silent era cinematographer Douglas Percival Cooper. His early career included work on The Big Blockade (1942), The Foreman Went to France (1942), Undercover (1943) and Went the Day Werll (1943) for Ealing Studios. Cooper subsequently became associated with the filmmaking team of Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat, how were part of the elite band of 'Independent Producers' working under the Rank umbrella and shot several of their films including The Rake’s Progress (1945), Green for Danger (1946) and London Belongs to Me (1948). He also worked on Stage Fright (1950) for Alfred Hitchcock and with J. Lee Thompson on the Wernher von Braun biopic I Aim at the Stars (1960). He later forged a partnership with special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen, photographing several of his productions, including The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), Jason and the Argonauts (1963) and First Men in the Moon (1964).
