One of Fassbinder’s most ambitious, imaginative, accessible and successful films stars Sukowa as the scheming singer who gets her claws into upright politician Mueller-Stahl. The sharp story, dazzling visuals and classy acting drive along the director’s attack on 1950s German corruption and his usual sexual provocations.
