  • Comments: Reading is a nice red brick city to the west of London, in the English county of Berkshire and lies on the River Thames. King Henry I founded an abbey here in 1121.  It has also had a university since 1926, sometimes has a pop festival on farmland to the NW of the station, and has a really great local astronomical society that was founded back in 1972. The front cover of this leaflet has a picture of a giant stone lion called Maiwand – which commemorates the soldiers killed in 66th (Berkshire) regiment of foot during the 2nd Anglo-Afghan war (1878 and 1880).
