Original French 22 inch x 15 1/4 inch page with illustration titled LA GRAND’ PLACE D’YPRES - LA - SILENCIEUSE
Ypres is a Belgian city and municipality in the province of West Flanders. During the First World War, Ypres (or "Wipers" as it was commonly known by the British troops) was the centre of the Battles of Ypres between German and Allied forces.
After Georges Scott (1873 - 1943). A French war correspondent and illustrator for the French magazine L'Illustration during the early 20th century. Scott specialized in military paintings and drawings and was officially appointed Painter of the Army, covering World War I in France and in the Balkans.
On the reverse are photos of Joseph Joffre, the French general who served as Commander-in-Chief of French forces on the Western Front from the start of World War I until the end of 1916 with Ferdinand Foch a French general and military theorist who served as the Supreme Allied Commander during the First World War.
And German officer prisoners.
