Seller's Description

Original British 20 inch x 30 inch Double Crown Poster of JAMES MASON in the 1957 Robert Rossen Romantic Drama ISLAND IN THE SUN, based on a novel by Alec Waugh.

The film is about race relations and interracial romance set in the fictitious island of Santa Marta. The story begins amidst a political race for control of the island between James Mason, the white, wealthy son of a prominent family and Harry Belafonte, a powerful black union leader.

The poster artwork is by A. “Jock” W. Hinchliffe.
Hinchliffe was born in Perth, Scotland. In 1953 he had a studio in Chalk Farm, North London, where he produced a series of six oil paintings as publicity for 20th Century Fox’s “The Robe”. He had been engaged by Fox in 1926 and produced posters and ads continuously for them, and for Disney, well into the 1960s.

Poster printed by Stafford & Co., Ltd, Netherfield, Nottingham and London

The poster is in fine folded condition.
