Original 1842 4 7/8 inch x 7 1/2 inch engraving titled INTERIOR OF THE GREAT TEMPLE AT BALBEC.
Print showing the ruins of the Temple of Bacchus in Baalbek with seated and standing figures in oriental costume; the vantage point is outstide the entrance.
Engraved by Ebenezer Challis (1806 - 1881).
After After William Henry Bartlett (1809 - 1854). Topographical draughtsman. Apprenticed to the antiquary and publisher John Britton, for whom he made illustrations until 1831. Travelled extensively producing illustrations for travel books, both those written by others and his own. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society.
