MORE INFO FROM OCR:
INDIAN SCULPTURE.
This remarkable pillar, made up of figures carved in wood by North American Indians, and
piled into a column, is now the only one of the kind known to exist. It stands near Fort
Simpson, and is supposed to have been erected before a savage temple. It has been conjecturedthat the grotesque noses are souvenirs of a gigantic race of elephants, of which geological tracesare still found.
