Lady Charlotte Mary Bacon, née Harley (1801 – 1880), was the second daughter of Edward Harley, 5th Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer. Her beauty as a child prompted Lord Byron to dedicate the first two cantos of Childe Harold's Pilgrimage to her, under the name "Ianthe".
From “The Byron Gallery of highly finished engravings illustrating Lord Byron's works with selected beauties from his poems”.
Engraved by Edward Finden (1791 - 1857). London line and stipple engraver. Brother of William, and worked together as engravers and publishers.
From the portrait by Richard Westall (1765–1836). An English painter and illustrator of portraits, historical and literary events, best known for his portraits of Byron. He was also Queen Victoria's drawing master.
Published in 1832, by J. Murray
Plate size 8 5/8 inch x 6 inch
The engraving is in very good condition with light foxing and slight age-related toning.
