Seller's Description
Original British 18 inch x 25 inch Poster for the 1968 Fernando E. Solanas Argentine Documentary HOUR OF THE FURNACES (LA HORA DE LOS HORNOS).
During the 1960s and 1970s, filmmaker Fernando E. Solanas was an influential figure in the promotion of radical, Leftist Argentine cinema. In 1966, Solanas teamed up with the Cine Liberación collective and with Spanish filmmaker Octavio Getino, secretly made one of the most powerful documentary films ever made, La Hora de los Hornos (The Hour of the Furnaces). Running at over four hours, the film rallied in support of Perón; via archival footage, montage, poetry, interviews, and drama, the documentary attempted to incite passive audiences to take action against political injustice. Shown in secret with periodic breaks to allow audiences to actively discuss the film, La Hora de los Hornos is considered a seminal work in what became known as Third Cinema, a style of filmmaking that eschewed the values and techniques of both Hollywood and European productions in favour of making films with a revolutionary bent.
The film was distributed by The Other Cinema which was set up in 1970 as a non-profit-making, independent film distribution company in London.
The poster is in fine unfolded (rolled) condition
