Seller's Description

This listing is for Horse Book Lot #3.

* The Winged Colt of Casa Mia Hardcover – November 19, 1973 by Betsy Byars  (Author), Richard Cuffari (Illustrator)

A young boy and his uncle learn to trust and care for each other as they become involved in raising a colt that has wings. A young boy is sent to live with his uncle--a former movie stunt man on a Texas ranch, by his irresponsible mother. Narrated in the first person by introspective Uncle Coot, this story introduces an unusual animal hero: a real but winged colt born to their neighbors. Young Charles grows to love the colt named ALADO (Winged One) and considers his uncle a true western hero. Alado learns to fly of course, but he endangers himself and causes great trouble for the two humans who are trying to cope with a mythical creature (Pegasus). Charles, the bookworm, desperately wants to prove himself a cowboy like his uncle; they both must sort out their feelings for each other and for Alado. Can a freak of nature survive in this modern world of exploitation and greed? An interesting and enjoyable book for readers of all ages.

* Mystery of the Blue Barn Stables Hardcover 1970 by Margaret Pitcairn Strachan (Author)

The open stall bolt and breakaway of a valuable horse, blamed on Sue and reflecting badly on Dad's Blue Barn Stables, sets her to scrutinizing the customers and rival trainer Hal Sears, all competitors in one way or another. With Dad's heart attack comes added concern, aggravated by new boys working in the barn and big shows in the offing. When she's not putting the Saddle-breds through their three or five paces, ""she reviewed some of the problems involved in operating a training stable."" Qua mystery, it's the sort where everybody has a motive and there's nary a clue. . . except the all-too-helpfulness of heiress Terri, who has her eye on Dad's young assistant Bart and sees Sue as a potential rival, However flatfooted the intrigue, this picks up and scores points in the show ring.

* The Horse That Played Center Field. Library Binding 1969 by Hal Higdon (Author)

After Oscar the horse began playing center field, the New York Goats, worst team in the major leagues, seemed certain to win the World Series, and then--Oscar was horse-naped.
