Seller's Description
Haste, Post Haste, by George Walker.
Dodd Mead & Company, 19XX. Undated, by approx 1938 from similar dustjackets. Copyright page has been removed (see photos).
The book and dustjacket are in good (book) / poor (dj) well-read condition.
"THE STORY OF THE POST through the ages, from the days of the running footman to those of the Air Mail, has the charm of adventurous and romantic commonplace. History may be veracious, but can never be novel, so much of this story is a twice-told tale—but the best tales always bear retelling. There is a novelty of emphasis in that the early days of the British Post Office are antedated a century earlier than is generally reckoned; their beginnings are in the days of the Tudors, since when there has been steady and continuous progress, and the birthday may in some sort be reckoned from the day when Henry VI Il appointed Sir Brian Tuke to be first ' Master of the King's Posts.'"
The book shows age
wear to page edges, and some age toning to the paper as expected. Copyright
page has been removed (see photos). The dust jacket has been price clipped,
considerable edge wear, and chunks are turn off and missing. Book is in
protective library style 'mylar' removeable plastic cover which can be removed. Photos are showing reflections of the plastic jacket.
