Seller's Description

1974 Harvard Football Ceramic Centennial Tankard with Team Roster

The cream colored tankard is 6 inches tall

Describing it from the bottom up:

The base of the mug is 4.25 inches wide.  The maker's mark:  Lewis Bros. Ceramic Inc. and their large debossed logo - an artist's palate with wine glass, pitcher and stein - fills the underside.

The bottom has a plain  border about .5 inches topped with a raised ring about a quarter of an inch wide.  Above that it is decorated with a .25 inch band of gold.  (Most mugs of this kind have 24k gold decorations.)  There is another .25 inch wide raised ring about the gilt border.

The main body of the mug is about 3 inches tall.  On the front is a unique logo:  A crimson "H" is the center.  At the top it says 1874-1974.  Starting on the left and reading left to right in a ""U"" shape it says THE REAL FOOTBALL CENTENNIAL The word "real" is in black lettering, the other words are in crimson lettering.  Beneath this circular legend is the year 1974 in black lettering.

Above the main body of the mug is a quarter inch raised border, topped with another thin gilt band, topped with another raised border.

Above that is says "Harvard Football" in crimson letters.

The harp shaped handle is about 4.75 inches long (measured on the diagonal) and extends about 2.25 inches from the body of the mug.  There is a gilt teardrop shape design on the side of the handle near the top.

The back of the mug lists the Ivy League Co-Champions (6-1) and beneath that features a team roster:

Head Coach, Assistant Coaches are listed at the top and the 1974 Varsity Lettermen (including the team's four managers) are listed in three columns and in alphabetical order from Joseph Antonellis '76 to Thomas Winn '77.  The name of the player or manager is followed by his intended year of graduation:  1975, 1976 or 1977.  A (C) for team Captain appears after the name of Brian Hehir '75.

This lettering for the roster is in black italic type and is quite small, about 6 - 8 point.

The top of the mug says Harvard - 21 Yale - 16.  With Harvard and it's score in crimson lettering and Yale and it's score in blue lettering.

The lip of the mug is about 3.5 inches in diameter.

Our fifth photograph, taken with flash, shows the inside of the mug.

The sixth photograph shows the maker's mark on the bottom of the mug.

There is a tiny hole on the underside of the handle which is how the mug was fired in the kiln, it's a production issue, not a blemish.  The outer rim of the underside of the mug is rough, also a production issue and there are some teeny blemishes on the underside.  There are two teeny pock marks on the mug - above the "t" in football on the top front and to the left of the word "real" on the front.  There are also several teeny production "spots" which appear as teeny brown dots (similar to dotting the letter i) on the front to the left of the word "real" and to the right of the top "1974" and on the top of the handle.  These "freckles" are also a production issue and not damage.

There is a small dark ring to the left of the "F" in football in the logo area (this is visible in our last photograph.)

The gilt borders are rubbed and there is a little rubbing to several of the names on the roster.

The lighting and contract on our third photograph, which shows the back of the mug, may make it look as though some letters are missing from the word "Harvard."  They are there.

CONTACTING YOU AFTER YOUR PURCHASE:

Occasionally, we have questions after your purchase.  Sometimes we need to confirm a shipping address.  If we have questions, we will contact you through eBid’s messaging system. Please check your eBid Messages and your email or shipment of your item may be delayed.  It is possible that your purchase may be cancelled if we don’t hear back from you.

BUYERS LOCATED OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES - PLEASE NOTE:

Receipt of your item may be delayed if it has to go through custom inspection in your country.  Occasionally, this adds days or weeks to delivery.

Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.

Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying.

Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges.

We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws.

During peak shipping times, it may take weeks to have your item clear customs.  We’ve had some items arrive in Europe in a week, but a package to South America once took six weeks to arrive!  Again, you’ll have to check with the customs office in your country if your item hasn’t been received.

Restrictions in your country may not allow us to ship certain items.

Many countries do not allow shipments of coins or precious metals, for example.  Some media, including computer software, music CDs or DVDs may be restricted for sale outside the United States.

VHS and DVDs are formatted differently for different countries.

If you are purchasing a VHS videotape, please note the format your machine requires before you make your purchase.  Most of our tapes are NTSC format (it is specified in the listing what the format is) which will not work in most video players in Europe and Australia.  We routinely contact anyone overseas who purchases a VHS video to ask them to check if their machine can play an NTSC tape before we ship.

Many DVDs also have a specific format by country.  If you are purchasing a DVD, please make sure the DVD is a format that will play in your machine.

If you see our photographs or text elsewhere on eBid or online, please let us know.

We’ve found our “stolen” photographs and text on other e-commerce websites many times.  In order to help reduce fraud and image theft, you’ll notice that most of our photographs have our logo or other label appearing on each image which obscures a small part of the item.

It is possible that anyone who uses stolen images or text may not even have the item they are trying to sell and that their intention is to defraud you.  We don’t want anyone to use our images or text to try and sell you something they don’t have.
