Seller's Description

United Kingdom 1990 The Queen Mother 90th Birthday £5 Commemorative Crown (BU)
This Crown is sealed in an early Royal Mint bubble presentation pack. Lady Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon was born on 4th August 1900. She married Prince Albert, second son of King George V in 1923. Her life changed dramatically when Albert was proclaimed King, upon the abdication of Edward Vlll. He was crowned King George Vl on 12th May 1937. and from that time The Queen Mother acted as Queen consort for 16 years. The reverse design features ornamental 'E's' entwined and flanked by an English rose and a Scottish thistle. The portrait of Her Majesty The Queen appears on the obverse. In 1990, the Royal Mint re-tariffed crowns from their previous 25 pence value to £5 and this was the first of its kind - paying tribute to the Queen Mother on her 90th birthday.
