Seller's Description
Hi there,
I am a guitar repairer and luthier based just outside Aberdeen, Scotland.
For sale is #119 of a custom line of electric guitars.
This guitar has -
Alder body, quilt veneer finished in a blue acrylic lacquer.
Maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard.
Allt Dubh HHH pickups but wound to give a HSS sound. The bridge pickup is a treblebucker with 3 alnico V magnets, master volume and tone. Micro capacitor changer switch.
Chrome hardware, roller saddle tremolo.
Rotosound 9 - 46 strings and strap locks.
This guitar is a mismatch of parts I had made at different times and decided to assemble them "just to try out". Well its a beauty, great sustain, lovely heavy sound and plays like a dream.
The cons???? The body is slightly marked where it was lying under a bench for a couple of years.... The neck GJ instription was tried out 4 years ago and I thought it was a little bit small so it was put to one side. Now , black diamonties have been added to the GJ and also a "starry sky" effect. to be completely honest with you I was going to keepthis one myself, it's so, so comfortable to play
Here is a little bit about me.....
GJ guitars started out when, around 35 yrs. ago, I fancied a "Tele" but couldn't afford one, so I decided to try and make one. I had been working in a local timber yard as a mechanic and managed to get a hold of some pieces of wood. During the evenings and at weekends, when i wasn't gigging, I would repair and customize clients guitars etc.
After about 8 months my 001 "Tele" was created. Since then it has been modified (or should I say butchered), bored, filled and painted umpteen times. Sometimes I think I would have been cheaper to buy one new.
Some clients, from my repair side, were keeping up to date with the progress and when the finished article finally came about, asked me if I could make something for them. A body, a neck etc. The next thing I knew I was up to # 6, a black "Strat" style with DiMarzio blues pickups. This guitar I kept for about 6 years, until finally someone offered me a absurd price for it.
The next guitar I kept, was #19, another "Strat" style with a quilt maple top, roller bridge, DiMarzio's etc.. After selling that one (which I wish I never) I made #72 which i still use today. A Strat with Dimarzio pups, GK3, made from a 2 piece Swamp Ash body, maple/ rosewood neck. It plays and sounds like a dream.
Unfortunately due to illness, not much was made between 2005 - 2008 and 2013 - 2017.
As I started to feel better l, I started to experiment with different woods for the bodies and necks.
From time to time the worst can happen and a body or neck can get damaged. Sometimes if not fully repairable these guitars are sold for a knock down price. A great bargain to be had by all.
Please note I mostly only build solid bodied guitars like "Strats" & "Teles" and maybe the odd LP or bass etc.
