Seller's Description
General Burbridge's Raid In Southwestern Virginia.
Original full page with story and series of 6 prints, in Harper's Weekly, January 14,1865.
The images include a view of the train tracks leading into the town of Saltville —a
spur of the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad built to transport local
salt. Other engravings on the page show Black workers involved in the
saltworks. The town and surrounding area were of great strategic
importance, providing two-thirds of the salt essential to preserving the
provisions of the Confederate army.
Page size: 16x11 inches.
