NOT a toy, but a real man-size tool, this tractor goes a step beyond the straddle-type tractor now in widespread use and brings to the home workshop, for home construction, a rugged, simple, and economical machine for yard and garden work - and for leisure enjoyment too. Based on used car parts (widely available in junk yards) it is extremely stable and maneuverable. With three speeds forward plus reverse, it will do any job from light hauling to heavy plowing. The design calls principally for cutting, drilling, and welding operations. The design is flexible enough to permit a wide choice of automotive parts: you could base a small tractor design on almost any manual-shift transmission and symmetrical rear end, and many small air-cooled engines from 3 to 10 hp would be suitable. However, any departure from the design given here will require careful study of the problems involved.
