Seller's Description

Original 1928 British 11 7/8 inch x 17 5/8 inch Double-Sided Trade Advertisement from Kinematograph Weekly for the 1927 John Ford Wartime Drama FOUR SONS, based on the story by I.A.R. Wylie and starring James Hall, Margaret Mann, Charles Morton, Francis X. Bushman Jr., George Meeker and June Collyer.

A family saga in which three of a Bavarian widow's sons go to war for Germany and the fourth goes to America, Germany's eventual opponent.

The advert artwork is by A. “Jock” W. Hinchliffe.
Hinchliffe was born in Perth, Scotland. In 1953 he had a studio in Chalk Farm, North London, where he produced a series of six oil paintings as publicity for 20th Century Fox’s “The Robe”. He had been engaged by Fox in 1926 and produced posters and ads continuously for them, and for Disney, well into the 1960s.

On the reverse is the 1928 George Fitzmaurice Romantic Drama LILAC TIME, adapted from the novel by Guy Fowler and starring Colleen Moore, Gary Cooper, Eugenie Besserer, Burr McIntosh and Kathryn McGuire.

Seven young English aviators are billeted at the Berthelot farm near the French front. One of the flyers, Philip Blythe, falls in love with farmer Berthelot's daughter, Jeannie, and on the morning before a dangerous mission declares his love for her. Philip is shot down, and Jeannie helps an ambulance crew to extricate his apparently lifeless body from the wrecked plane. In the following weeks, Jeannie searches in vain in all of the military army hospitals for Philip. She does encounter Philip's father, who, disapproving of her lowly origins, falsely informs her that Philip has died. In farewell, Jeannie sends a bouquet of lilacs to his room, and Philip, recognizing the flowers as her gift, painfully drags himself to his window in time to call her back to him.

AND the 1928 Adrian Brunel Drama THE VORTEX, based on the play by Noel Coward and starring Ivor Novello, Willette Kershaw, Frances Doble and Alan Hollis.

A young man is shocked to discover that his fiancée is the mistress of his mother's lover.

The Advertisement is in very good condition with one vertical centre fold and two staples along either side of it.
