Seller's Description

Original British 18 inch x 12 inch 16 page illustrated Pressbook for the 1937 Tim Whelan Drama FAREWELL AGAIN starring Flora Robson, Leslie Banks, Robert Newton, Sebastian Shaw, Rene Ray, Anthony Bushell, Leonora Corbett, Eliot Makeham, Martita Hunt, Edward Lexy, Maire O'Neill, Wally Patch, Alf Goddard, John Laurie, Jerry Verno and William Hartnell.

Carrying the same call to preparedness as “Fire Over England” (both were produced by Erich Pommer and scripted by Clemence Dane), this is about a troopship bringing men home on leave after five years army service in India. Trouble stirs when orders require an immediate return to duty, but, after six hours in port during which all the carefully planted domestic problems and heartbreaks get a cursory airing, everybody nobly buckles to. Quite warmly praised at the time, but the class attitudes accepted as perfectly normal, the officers, suffering stoically, soothe other-rank grumbles with a patronising pat on the head; the gentry cavort over cocktails and dancing in the saloon while the lower orders huddle like squalid sardines below decks, are positively cringe-making. No wonder Churchill and the Tories were elected out after World War II.

The Pressbook is in good folded condition with superb posters designed by Kupfer Sachs displayed on the inside back page. Sachs also designed posters for THINGS TO COME.
There is also a 5 inch x 7 inch 4 page herald tacked inside.
There are five cuts in the pressbook; pages 3/4 have a 5 1/2 inch x 1 inch cut through text on both sides (an extended 3 inch tear has resulted from this); pages 9/10 have a 7 inch x 3 inch cut through an ad block on one side and text on the other, a 4 inch x 2 inch cut through 2 ad blocks on one side and text on the other a 4 1/2 inch x 3 inch cut through an ad block on one side and text on the other; pages 11/12 have a 5 inch x 4 inch cut through text on both sides and a 4 inch x 2 inch cut through text on both sides.
