  • SIR WALTER SCOTT (1771 - 1832). Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet, FRSE was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, poet and historian. Many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature.
  • THOMAS MOORE (1779 - 1852). Thomas Moore was an Irish poet, singer, songwriter, and entertainer, now best remembered for the lyrics of "The Minstrel Boy" and "The Last Rose of Summer". He was responsible, with John Murray, for burning Lord Byron's memoirs after his death.
  • LORD BYRON (1788 - 1824). George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron FRS, known as Lord Byron, was an English nobleman, poet, peer, politician, and leading figure in the Romantic movement. He is regarded as one of the greatest British poets and remains widely read and influential.
  • ROBERT BURNS (1759 - 1896). Robert Burns, also known as Rabbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire, Ploughman Poet and various other names and epithets, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide.
  • JOHN CAMPBELL (1708 - 1775). John Campbell was a Scottish author. He contributed to George Sale's Universal History, and wrote a Political Survey of Britain (1744). He was both prolific and well paid: according to James Boswell, Samuel Johnson spoke of Campbell to Joseph Warton as 'the richest author that ever grazed the common of literature.

From ‘The Royal History of England from the Earliest Period to the Present Time’ by Henry Tyrrell, W.C. Staffordf and John Sherer, Published in 1876 by J.G. Murdoch, 41, Castle Street, Holborn, London.
