Original 1866 9 1/4 inch x 4 1/4 inch engraving titled THE FALCONER

Statue of a falconer, nude save for a cloth tucked into a belt around his waist, standing with the falcon perched on the glove on his raised left hand, his right holding the neck of a heron beside him.

Engraving by William Thomas Fry (1789 - 1843). Engraver of portraits and figures.

From the sculpture by John Edward Carew (1785 - 1868). An Irish sculptor whose most prominent work is the Death of Nelson – one of the four bronze panels on the pedestal of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square.

Published in the Art Journal by J.S. Virtue & Co. Ltd., London.
