Seller's Description
z13 This is a rare limited edition postcard published by Essex Police nearly 30 years ago and is about the local uniform in 1930 and how most police were now supervised by "Charlies" (Parish Constables) - It details Maldon, Saffron Walden, and Colchester, and the dates and years these first had their own forces. The police officer shown is Inspector William Drane who served in the Colchester force between 1906 to 1934 and is shown wearing a Senior Officers dress uniform of 1930. The lady shown is Sergeant Dorothy Kirk who joined the womens service in 1915 and made history as the first local policewoman of Essex. They are shown outside Colchester Castle with further details of both their achievements on reverse & this rare local postcard is unused and mint
