Seller's Description
A Driver's Eye View of Devon & Cornwall, 'Bolventor to Okehampton & Bridestowe, via Sourton Cross & Hatherleigh' - on DVD (DV008)
A Driver's Eye View:
Take a road trip through Cornwall and Devon, the eighth in my series of real-time dvd drives, just one in a series of 'Dave's Cornwall DVD's' that feature a driver's eye view of the highways and byways of Cornwall & Devon. Approximately 60 minutes of pure driving pleasure, filmed using a top quality car camera, and accompanied with gentle soothing music. See what Cornwall & Devon is really like in early season when the roads are quiet.
The Journey:
Just sit back, relax, and take in the view as we take a steady late springtime drive in mid-May, setting off from the Jamaica Inn at Bolventor on Bodmin Moor, and joining the A30 east-bound dual carriageway. We head along the A30, bypassing Trewint, Five Lanes, and Plusha, before descending down the valley at Two Bridges, then passing Kennards House, Tregadillett, Launceston, and Lifton Down, from where we continue along the A30 until we sight a glimpse of Dartmoor on the horizon, and take the Sourton Cross exit, to briefly pull in at the Little Chef at Sourton Down.
From Sourton down we continue along the A386 towards Hatherleigh, passing through the village of Folly Gate, and going through Bassett's Cross, before entering the sleepy village of Hatherleigh, where we take a break at noon for a quick pint at the Bridge Inn. After our refreshments, we continue our drive out of Hatherleigh, back down the A386, but this time taking a left turn onto the B3216 at Bassett's Cross, and following this country road into the village of Jacobstowe, where we take a right turn and follow the A3072 back across the countryside to rejoin the A386. We head back down through A386, through Folly Gate, after which we take the left turn onto Hatherleigh Road, eventually descending down Upcott Hill into the old Devonshire town of Okehampton.
At the Market Street traffic lights in Okehampton, we take a right turn past the old White Hart Hotel and onto Fore Street, passing out of the town and making our way up the hill up New Road, the original old A30 route to Cornwall before the Okehampton bypass was built. We continue up this old A30 route (B3260) on Tavistock Road, eventually crossing over the A30 dual carriageway, and rejoining it west-bound briefly, then taking the Sourton Cross exit, and taking a right then left onto the original old A30 road towards Bridestowe. After bypassing Bridestowe, we pass through the hamlet of Bidlake, where shortly after, just before we reach Lobhill Cross, we end our journey.
Experience West Cornwall:
In this DVD you will experience Devon & Cornwall on a late spring sunny Sunday morning on a beautiful sunny day, where the skies are blue, the roads are quieter than high season, and the day gets hotter as noon approaches. The trees are in full bloom with foliage, as early summer beckons, and the occasional holiday maker can be seen seen with caravan in tow. This is a road journey film that shows the stark beauty and tranquility of the main route through Devon & Cornwall, as well as a detour on the old original trunk road, when the days are longer and everyday life moves at it's own pace. A lovely 1 hour sojourn away from the humdrum of the city.
