Douglas Isle of Man 1965, AEC Regent Bus, Large Photo
Description: This is a Large 11"" inch x 8"" inch photo of busy holiday scene on Douglas Street, Isle of Man in 1964. This area is quite similar today except for traffic-island redevelopment and the building on the right which has been extensively redeveloped since this photograph was taken. The distinctive Manx street lamps are no longer there, but if you look carefully in the far middle distance you will see that the Sea Terminal is in the process of being built, with the steel re-bars in place ready to erect the concrete terminal tower.
It is clearly the holiday season and on the left is a Jacobs horse drawn tram with driver in full uniform, displaying a mounted banner advertisement 'Ivy Benson and Her Band - Villa Marina Gardens at 2.30'. In the background is a pre-1963 Triumph Herald, and to the left of the bus is a male tourist sporting some very trendy 1960's sunglasses.
Taking pride of place in the shot is a 1963 Douglas Corporation Transport, Metro-Cammell H37/27F bodied AEC regent V, fleet number 3, registration plate 8124 MN, Route number 1, destination board 'Promenades Derby Castle' and displaying a banner advertisement - Coca cola - Refreshing you Best'.
