Seller's Description

Dewsbury Webster Hill 1972, Joseph Wood Mirfield Bus, Large Photo

Description: This is a Large 12" inch x 8" inch photo of a weekday scene in Dewsbury in 1972. A 1957 Joseph Wood & Son liveried Leyland Tiger bus, Registration FYS689, Fleet Number 28, registration KWX18, Destination 'Mirfield via Knowle' climbs the A644 Webster Hill with a full load of passengers, as it leaves Dewsbury on the Mirfield run. In the background, running parallel with the A644 is Pinfold Hill, with Pinfold shop at the junction and a billboard depicting Almonds Energy Bread. A two tone Ford Popular saloon can be seen in the distance and a man in shirt and tie with braces can be seen looking out of the window of house number 8 Pinfold Hill.

Although the row of houses on Pinfold Hill are still there today, the shop and all buildings in the background of the photo have since been demolished, the A644 Webster hill is now a dual carriageway, and in 2023 number 8 Pinfold Hill was gutted by fire.

A rare shot of a typical everyday scene at Dewsbury Webster Hill back in the day.
