Text from the free encyclopedia WIKIPEDIA may appear below to give a little background information:
*************
Bayard's Cover Fort is a small early Tudor artillery fort, built to defend the harbour entrance at Dartmouth, Devon, England.
The tower was a third means of defence for the port, providing additional fire to protect the port should any enemy ships have broken past Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle at the entrance of the cove.
Today, the site is owned by English Heritage, and sits at the end of the pier as an open shell.
