These curious fishes are not only brilliantly coloured, but are also characterised by their peculiar habits. The fish at the top of the picture is the
Sapphi e Gurnard, a British species which crawls a'ong the bottom of the sea with the aid of its curious fore-fins. The brilliant blue fish and
Richardson's Plectropona, in the centre, are carnivorous. The small Blenny has a peculiar habit of jumping, and the Solverenus, at the bottom, is
covered with velvet pile instead of scales.
