Please note: BabyRice alginate starts setting in around 2 minutes. This makes it's quick and easy for you to make you cast, but it also means you have to be prepared to work quickly. Ensure you have everything ready before you start and read the instructions thoroughly before you begin. EASY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS

Your casting kit comes with step-by-step instructions to guide you through each stage of the casting process. Our easy to follow instructions have been tried and tested by thousands of happy customers.  The process is really quite simple and you can easily create your own beautiful keepsake:

>> mix alginate into 30 degree centigrade water (always sprinkle alginate into the water, not the other way round!)
>> place hands into the mixture and wait for the moulding material to set
>> remove hands - now you have your alginate mould
>> mix plaster with water and into alginate mould
>> once the plaster has set, gently break away the alginate mould from the plaster cast to reveal a work of art
>> paint your casts  using the metallic paint provided -  if desired

PROFESSIONAL CASTING MATERIALS

This adult hand casting kit contains high-grade, colour changing (chromatic) alginate impression powder. This means the alginate goes through a three-stage colour changing process:
1. It starts life as a white powder
2. When mixed with water it turns into a pink paste or gel
3. Once it’s set, the alginate will turn white again.

This simple colour changing process makes it easy to see when the alginate is set and it's time to remove your hand from the moulding material.

SKIN SAFE ALGINATE

Our hypoallergenic Skin Safe Alginate is specifically formulated to be gentle on skin. In fact, the main ingredient of BabyRice alginate is kelp, a form of seaweed.

All BabyRice alginate conforms to British Safety Standards BS 4269 Pt.2:1991 and the internationally recognised safety standard ISO 1563:1990. In order to maintain these standards, our alginate undergoes rigorous quality control and regular testing to ensure every single bag of alginate is of the highest quality.

STRONG CASTING PLASTER

Herculite 2 is a strong and fast setting British Gypsum plaster that reproduces fine detail and sets with a nice white finish.  It is far superior for casting compared to cheaper, and softer Plaster of Paris.

Harder and more durable than other types of plaster, Babyrice Herculite 2 is the perfect option for projects such as hand casting, body moulds, model making and other decorative objects that will be handled frequently.

The white surface finish of the Herculite makes it a perfect base for a lovely paint finish, should you decide to paint your cast.
