Original 1893 6 3/8 inch x 10 5/8 inch Engraving titled CONSULTING THE ORACLE.
In this picture he shows a group of seven young girls, sitting in a semicircle round a lamplit shrine, waiting in excitement while the priestess interprets the words of the Oracle.
Painted by John William Waterhouse (1849 - 1917). An English painter known for working first in the Academic style and for then embracing the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood's style and subject matter. His artworks were known for their depictions of women from both ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend.
