Original 1842 4 3/8 inch x 6 1/2 inch engraving titled THE CITY OF PESTILENCE.
Scene of the plague in Epirus in 1368.
Engraved by Peter Lightfoot (1805 - 1885). Line engraver who worked in London engraving plates for 'The Art Union' (1847-48) and 'The Art Journal' (1852).
From the painting ‘The Plague of Epirus’ by Pierre Mignard 1612 - 1695. Pierre Mignard was one of the most successful painters of the reign of Louis XIV. He worked for the King and many of the principal figures at court both as a portraitist and as a painter of large-scale decorative schemes.
