Seller's Description

[Title]: U-Boot Männer - so werdet ihr sterben! Sous-mariniers allemands - voice quelle sera votre fin!

[Political Warfare Executive, 1943]. Original aerial propaganda leaflet printed in b/w, illustrated. 2 pages. 428 x 134 mm. Text in German and French.

Code G.35 [1943]. - Kirchner 5, 116. - Air-dropped over the ports of the French Atlantic coast on two consecutive days in June 1943 only. - Scarce.

There are two versions of this leaflet. One was printed in red and black, while the other, like this present copy, was printed solely in black and white.

In May 1943, widely regarded as the turning point in the Battle of the Atlantic, the Allies dealt significant blows to Germany's U-boat packs, rendering large portions of their fleet obsolete. “The Prime Minister’ statement of May 19, 1943, regarding the U-Boat losses is lightly touched upon in a leaflet that graphically shows in four pictures the loss of a German underseas craft. The brief mention is given in French and German (as is the remainder of the leaflet’s text) indicating that it served two people in France - the German civilian and the French forced worker” (R. G. Auckland in Falling Leaf 58, p.86).

Folded in the middle (likely distributed that way), with slight rubbing, otherwise in very good condition. - Authenticated by Klaus Kirchner, with his hand stamp located in the lower right corner.

Please note: the leaflet will be mailed folded along the existing fold lines.
