Chester Eastgate Street 1971, Saughall Bus, Large Photo
Description: This is a Large 11"" inch x 8"" inch photo of a period street scene of Eastgate Street and the Grosvenor Hotel, Chester in 1971. It is a busy sunny Saturday and the street is thick with shoppers and traffic. A Chester City Transport 1971 'Pay as You Enter' Daimler Fleetline, fleet number 48, registration plate JMF648J, route 1D, destination 'Saughall' makes it's way past a gleaming 1971 Ford Coach, registration plate FDA999J, owned by 'Best', and about to pull away from the Grosvenor Hotel after unloading it's passengers.
The ornate clock tower can be seen showing 5.10pm, and the ornate Grosvenor Hotel sign which is still there today can be seen displaying the hotel's AA and RAC recommended status, which it no longer displays today. The buildings are very much the same today, although the boarded up shop in the photograph is now 'Russell & Bromley' shoe shop, and the road is now fully pedestrianised, with only limited access for motor vehicles. Two fashionable ladies with period sunglasses and hairstyles complete the setting.
