Good general condition with signs of use, a name written over in black pen is the most noticeable defect.
A song written by Charles Chaplin in 1966 for what would be his final motion picture, A Countess from Hong Kong (1967). The song would be featured in the film only as an instrumental because of problems finding the right singer to evoke the era the film takes place in: the late 1920's, early 1930's.
Chaplin found his singer in September 1966: Petula Clark, who lived nearby his home in Switzerland. Clark felt the English lyrics were too old-fashioned for the times, and wanted to only record it in French. Vogue Records' US distributor Warner Bros., however, was convinced the lyrics would work for the English-speaking market as well with the right arrangement.
Still, after the recording was made, Clark felt it would not succeed as a single and released it as an album track. However a UK version was released as a single by Pye Records against her wishes, a release which she attempted to block, and much to her amazement the song sailed to #1 in February 1967. It then became an international smash hit, reaching #3 in the US and #4 in Canada on April 22, 1967.
