Original British 30 inch x 40 inch Quad Poster for the 1950 Basil Dearden Ealing Studios Crime Drama CAGE OF GOLD, from an original story by Jack Whittingham & Paul L. Stein and starring Jean Simmons, David Farrar, James Donald, Herbert Lom, Harcourt Williams, Gladys Henson, Gregoire Aslan, Madeleine Lebeau, Maria Mauban, Bernard Lee, Martin Boddey, Campbell Singer and Arthur Howard.
A young bride believes her husband has been killed. After a suitable period of mourning, she re-marries. But then her "dead" husband comes back and tries to extort money from her.
Poster design by S John Woods. Although Woods designed several Ealing posters he is better known for commissioning other well known contemporary artists such as John Piper, Leslie Hurry, Edward Bawden, Mervyn Peake and Edward Ardizzone in the belief that British films deserved the best and that British audiences could appreciate the best.
Printed by Graphic Reproductions Ltd. (Ealing’s main printer through the 1940s and 1950s).
The poster is in very good condition folded condition. There are a few pinholes. There is minor separation at the top left and top right fold junctions. There are one or two very minor edge nicks.
