Seller's Description
Original British 16 inch x 23 inch Poster for the 1972 Marin Karmitz Drama BLOW FOR BLOW (COUP POUR COUP) starring Simone Aubin, Jacqueline Auzellaud, Elodie Avenel, Anne-Marie Bacquie, Jean-Pierre Baronsky and Antoinette Barrois.
In the wake of the student and labour demonstrations that rocked France in May 1968, Karmitz’s leftist political activism made its way into his film work, most notably with Blow For Blow, a 1972 feature about striking female workers in a French textile factory.
Banned from many cinemas and projected around mines, community centers and factories by Karmitz himself, the film was a collaborative effort, bringing together professional and non-professional actors around a perpetually rewritten screenplay, which adapted to the colloquialisms of the workers.
Poster art by Oscar Zárate (born 1942). Zárate is an Argentine comic book artist and illustrator. Zarate studied architecture and had a successful career in advertising in Argentina. He moved to Europe in 1971 and began to work in earnest as an illustrator. He has produced several posters for the independent film company The Other Cinema.
The poster is in very good folded condition with slight creasing.
